Practical Courses

RYA Level 1 - Start Powerboating

 This one-day course introduces you to core boat handling skills and the use of safety equipment, and is popular with both beginners and self-taught powerboaters who require formal certification. No prior experience is required.

RYA Level 2 - Powerboat Handling

A two-day course to get to grips with powerboat handling. As the basis of the International Certificate of Competence, by the end of the course you’ll be a self-sufficient powerboater in good conditions. The curriculum covers low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. Can be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement. No prior experience required, but Level 1 is recommended.

 

RYA Safety Boat

This comprehensive two-day training will equip you with the skills needed when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is a prerequisite, and a first aid certificate is recommended

Navigation Courses

RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship

A basic introduction to navigation and safety for people new to powerboating, with no prior experience required. Covers charts and publications, safety, engine checks, buoyage, tidal awareness, visual and electronic navigation, pilotage, rules of the road, anchoring, weather forcasts, and passage planning.

RYA Day Skipper Theory

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork navigation meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course.

 

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster™ Theory

Building on the knowledge gained at the theory Day Skipper level, this advanced course is aimed at powerboaters who are looking to undertake more complex passages, perhaps offshore or at night. Essential for progressing to the Yachtmaster™ Coastal and Yachtmaster™ Offshore practical courses
